Swan River Lions
Eye Bank Shootout
|

| On November 26th 2008, the Swan River
Lions Club sponsored a $10,000,00 Shoot Out. Indispensably
assisted by the Lions Eye Bank Coordinator, Elly
Pendergast, the Lions of Swan River held a promotional
evening for the Lions Eye Bank during the November
26th Major Junior Hockey Game. |

Every fan was
asked to bring at least one pair of used eyeglasses,
sunglasses, frames or eyepieces to the game. For
each donation of eyewear, the fan would receive
one ticket that would make him/her eligible for
a draw. Six tickets were drawn and six shooters
were chosen. |
|
During the second
intermission, Elly gave the approximately 450
attentive spectators an excellent explanation
of the role of the Eye Bank and the need for donors. |
|
| Following the presentation, six blindfolded
shooter, in turn, attempted to shoot a puck from
the far blueline into a small hole placed in front
of one of the nets. Each shooter was given a 2008,
25th Journey for Sight Anniversary fleece pullover
shirt as a consolation prize. Unfortunately, no
one won the $10,000.00. |

Elly, with the
help of her husband, Rick Marrin of the Winnipeg
Lions Club, and of the Swan River Lions, had set
up a huge attractive and informative display in
the lobby of the arena that attracted a great
deal of attention from the fans. For much of the
time, the displayed was manned by our District
Governor, Wayne Preston, who did a great PR job
in his role as an Eye Bank Ambassador. |

The Swan River
Lions thank Elly, Wayne, and Rick for their generosity
and time spent. The promotional evening would
not have been nearly as successfully as it was
if these three enthusiastic Lions had not been
there. |

The Swan River
Lions will evaluate the evening and decide if
a similar Eye Bank promotion will be repeated
or if the club will sponsor another Lion’s
project promotion next year. |
