| The Journey for Sight
Is.... |
 |
The Journey for Sight, a snowmobile
fund raising event, originated in Birtle, Manitoba
in 1983. This ride was initially one sled - one rider
collecting pledges for worthwhile causes. Today, snowmobile
riders from Northern, Central and Southern Manitoba
will typically ride a minimum of 200 kilometers visiting
various communities collecting pledges for the programs
of the Lions Eye Bank.
|
Riders and crew graciously accept cash and cheque gifts of any amount. Tax receipts
will be issued for donations greater than $10.00. Expenses incurred during
the snowmobile ride are paid by the participant or a sponsoring Lions club.
That means all your donations are directed to the Lions Eye Bank.
To date, over $1,000,000 has been raised. |

" I
started wearing eye glasses in grade 3, " says
Lute. " My father
told me I had his eyes because he also had to wear
glasses. It made me feel normal that I was like
my dad." Many years later, Lute is feeling
'normal' again after receiving corneal transplants
in both eyes. Gradual vision loss through his teens
and early twenties had eventually led to a diagnosis
of an eye disease called keratoconus.
Both transplants
were successful and Lute now has regained the vision
that was taken away. " I
can say first hand that organ and tissue donation
is the best gift you can leave behind."
The
Lions Eye Bank encourages you to sign a donor card
and most importantly, talk to your family about
your wish to be a donor.
